Blasting Off for a fun July

Here’s to another fabulous 4th of July.

This time of year, like many holidays, reminds us about the importance of community. It takes all of us to create the place where we want to grow old and raise our family.

Our mission is to create that place - but we need help. In the next few weeks, there is a good chance you’ll see us out and about. So how can you help? Check with your employer about letting United Way host a workplace campaign. We’ll do most of the work from there.

Another way you can help is joining us for our events. Check us out during the Taste of Missouri Stroll at A Stroke of Magic. We will be hosting Purses with a Purpose there and auctioning off name brand purses to support dual credit scholarships for Randolph County students.

Roughly one month after the Purses with a Purpose is our Eats & Beats. Great food, great music and entertainment, all for a great cause. Tickets will be available at the end of the month.

One of our agencies is seeking help with a MasterTech drawing: http://www.mastertechplumbing.com/answers-the-call You can vote once a day for the Christos Center.

Christos Center served a record of 86 new individuals. What is Christos Center? Christos Center is a food bank serving those in need from Randolph County. They are open Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 and 1-3 p.m. and on Friday’s from 1-3 p.m.

Carma Smith is the executive director of the facility. She has some exciting plans to help families learn some different skills - like gardening and cooking. Carma and a slew of volunteers serve often serve over 1,200 families a month.

A special thanks to Ritter’s for their donation of fresh produce - zucchini, yellow squash and

Cantaloupe. Other items made available to Christos were chicken wings, green onions, and sweet tea, on top of the items they bring in from The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri (another partner agency of United Way of Randolph County).
